
Ella CHEONG, JP
Ella Cheong has been involved in IP practice for many years. She is a solicitor in Hong Kong and is on the Roll of Honour of the Law Society of Hong Kong. She has also qualified in UK and Australia, and was admitted to the bar in Singapore. She was for many years precedent partner at one of Hong Kong's oldest law firms, having established its IP department, and was co-founder of a leading IP boutique legal firm in Singapore, established at the invitation of the Singapore Government. She regularly gives talks on all aspects of IP in Hong Kong, PRC and other parts of Asia. She has also authored many articles on IP issues.
Ella's accomplishments in Hong Kong include having been Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Society for many years and was a member of the Patents Steering Committee. She was also President of the Hong Kong Group of APAA. She is a Life Founder Member of Asian Anti-Counterfeit Association. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of INTA, and has participated in many of INTA's committees. She is Chairman of the group comprising independent members of the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriete Industrielle (AIPPI) from around the world, representing them on the Council of Presidents and the Executive Committee of AIPPI, and received its Award of Merit. She was a Council Member of FICPI, being the first Asian to be accorded this honour, and has now been elected a Member of Honour of FICPI.
Ella has featured in numerous publications (including IP Luminaries 2007/8, "Who's Who in the World", "Who's Who of Professionals" and various other "Who's Who" such as International Who's Who of Franchise Lawyers 2008, Trademark Lawyers, Patent Lawyers, Business Lawyers) as a leading professional and practitioner in each and every aspect of IP and was listed as one of the world's top 20 trade mark law practitioners in "The Best of the Best". She was nominated to the ABI International Directory of Distinguished Leadership Hall of Fame and featured in 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century, as well as being awarded the HK Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs Award 2002. She received Member of Honour of FICPI 2006 and Roll of Honor of the Law Society of Hong Kong 2004 and also Matsushita's Panasonic Gold Award of Merit for Contribution to Protection of IP Rights.
